Now I have two weeks of learning experience with Ruby on Rails. In fact I am learning Ruby first because I think it is better to learn the language first than the framework. And truly say learning Ruby is really fun. I will talk about Ruby some other day, for the time being a group of four persons including me have decided to start a new website which we are going to develop in Rails. Among four of us, two including me are programmers (with no prior experience of Ruby/Rails), one is web designer and the last but not the least will work upon content. After initial discussion it has been decided that we have to use a content management system because the content will be huge for this site. I have taken the responsibility of finding a cms for Rails and finally I have found…
…Radiant . As far as my two weeks Rails knowledge is concerned it is the one and only stable CMS built upon Rails. Soon I have started to play with it. Everything was very easy to install it on my windows development machine but it has given me a week of sleepless nights when installling on my shared linux host. Finally it is working now.
I have prior experience of working with Joomla and Dotnetnuke so it seems nothing in comparision. It is very basic and small but I think it is easier to customize. So far I have created a header, a left navigation bar and three level hierarchy of pages. Although it is just starting but if anyone interested have a look at my work at http://www.mydelhionline.com/homepage . At this time I am not very much impressed (may be because I am new to Rails and Radiant both so it takes time to get things working) but I hope it will give me good results soon. I will be keep updating about my journey with Radiant.
For everyone who has not heard of what Radiant is visit http://www.radiantcms.org .
